FAQs

Q. I have electric out in part of my house, but no breaker is tripped. Is the problem inside of my house?

A. Normally the problem is caused by faulty in house wiring such as a bad splice, outlet or breaker. If a large portion of the house is without electric it may be missing a phase coming from outside. Check with your local service provider to be sure there are no listed power problems in your area.

Q. What size light bulbs can I use in my light fixtures?

A. Over lamping  a light fixture can cause serious problems to the fixture and the wiring. Never use a higher wattage bulb than what is listed on the fixture as the intense heat can melt the socket and damage the wire insulation. Use 60watt bulbs or smaller on an older fixture that has no wattage listed .

Q. What does it mean when my lights flicker?

A. This is a common problem that could be caused by any number of problems including a loose wire at the utility pole or where the overhead wires meet the house, a loose wire in the breaker box or faulty breaker, faulty in house wiring or even a bad A/C or refrigerator compressor. Some of these issues could potentially be serious and should be accessed immediately.

Q. Where do I have to have GFCI’s installed?

A. GFCI outlets are required by code to be installed in kitchens, bathrooms, outdoors and in garages and unfinished basements.
